Dream Comes True for Jenkins
May 28, 2009
KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State junior Chad Jenkins has been named Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I Third Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The announcement was made today by the newspaper. "It really is a dream come true for me," said Jenkins. "It's always been a goal of mine to be named All-American, and to reach that goal is just great for me." Jenkins, the Atlantic Sun Conference's Pitcher-of-the-Year, earned unanimous First Team All-Conference honors earlier this month. His 8-1 record was tops in the A-Sun, while his ERA of 2.54 also led the league. He finished the season with five complete games and three shutouts (two solo and one combined). Jenkins, a Canton, Ga., native, had a scoreless innings streak during the season that reached 41.0, while he also went 24.2 consecutive innings without issuing a walk. His only loss came after allowing two earned runs in six innings against No. 3 Georgia Tech. In addition, Jenkins also excelled in the classroom, earning CoSIDA Second Team District All-Academic honors. "We are tremendously excited for Chad with what he accomplished this season," said Kennesaw State head baseball coach Mike Sansing. "He has brought a lot of recognition both to himself and to the baseball program. He's a great student-athlete and he deserves all of the accolades coming his way." Jenkins was one of three Atlantic Sun Conference players to earn All-American status. Stetson's Jeremy Cruz, the A-Sun's Player of the Year, earned Second Team honors while East Tennessee State's Paul Hoilman joined Jenkins on the third team. |
