Woods Named to All-Frosh Team

March 3, 2009

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kennesaw State freshman guard Kurtis Woods was selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team in a statement released by the conference offices this afternoon.

Woods, who started in his first collegiate game against Western Illinois in the 100 Club Classic and never left the starting five the rest of the season, was the lone Kennesaw State player selected in the post-season awards.

"This is a tremendous honor for Kurtis and I am proud," said head coach Tony Ingle. "He stepped into the starting lineup from the beginning and was a major contributor for our team all season long. He led all the freshmen in the conference in scoring and was a major part of our offense. He is very deserving of this recognition."

Woods averaged 10.5 points per game, the most of any freshman in the conference. In addition, he set a freshman record with a 19-point debut in the Owls win over Western Illinois, the most points ever scored by a KSU player in his collegiate debut. He scored 304 points on the season, second on the Owls to Kelvin McConnell.

"I'm excited and proud to be selected to the all-freshman team," said Woods when he found out he was selected. "There's a lot of talented freshmen in the A-Sun and I'm glad to be recognized by the coaches and sports information people as one of the top freshmen."

Woods is the second Kennesaw State player to be named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team. Andre Morgan was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year in the 2005-06 season. Lorne Merthie of Campbell was named the Conference Freshman of the Year.
