Owls Fourth In Final Pre-Conference Tune-Up

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - A week after taking home his second Runner of the Week award of `08, Scott Burley led the Owls to a fourth place finish in the Front Runner Invitational in Chattanooga, Tenn., on October 18. "We had already run the course earlier in the season so we knew what to expect," Burley said. "The entire team finished today's race with lower times than the last time we were here, which is a good indicator of how much we have improved. We are running with a lot of confidence heading into the conference championships." Burley led the Owls with a fifth place finish in the 5k race, finishing with a time of 15:19. Piotr Witczak was not far behind, placing 11th with a time of 15:44, followed by Steven Murray in 17th (16:05), Travis Holmes in 21st (16:24), and Jaakko Nieminen in 22nd (16:25) to round out the top five. "For the most part the guys ran a pretty consistent race for the mile splits," Assistant Coach Jason Waters said. "All of our top guys ran well. We just have to turn this 5k into a good 8k in two weeks. "I think with the distance base that we've been working on and the work that we have for the next couple of weeks, they will be ready for the 8k." The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Macon, Ga., to compete in the conference championships on November 1. Individual Results Team Results |
