DeLAND, Fla. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team got off to a strong start in its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Monday, finishing the day alone in fifth after posting a 310 total at the 6,056-yard, par-72 Victoria Hills Golf Club.

The Owls, who are just nine strokes out of the top three and 12 strokes behind leader Stetson, were paced by a trio of golfers currently inside of the top 20 on the individual leaderboard.

Jordan Lazenby led the way, playing one-under par golf over her final ten holes to card a 76 and position herself in a tie for 13th. Lazenby combined back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14 with only one bogey to shoot a one-under par 35 on the back nine.

Ashley Aguilera and Patricia Arana, who have led the Owls in all of their spring events, each came in just a stroke behind in a tie for 16th at 77. Aguilera and Arana both opened with steady one-over par 37's on the frontside before sliding back with 40's on the back.

Laura Lindsey turned in the Owls final qualifying score, coming in with an 80 after going 40-40. Lindsey, who started the day strong with a par on one and a birdie on two, is currently in solo 32nd place, but still well within contention of the top 20.

The Owls final competitor, Malin Becker, carded an unconventional 82 that included three birdies. Becker, who is tied for 38th, is tied for second in birdies as well as par three scoring (3.00).

The host Hatters' Danielle Jackson holds the individual lead after carding a one-under par 71. East Tennessee State's Sinead O'Sullivan and Campbell's Belen Diaz Cisneros are just a stroke behind in a tie for second.

Kennesaw State will be paired with Florida Gulf Coast and Mercer in Tuesday's second round. The first group of the day will go off at 8 a.m., while Becker will lead the Owls out of the gate beginning at 9:04 a.m.
