Soccer Announces 2009 Opponents

April 1, 2009

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State head coach Rob King has announced the Black and Gold's opponents for the 2009 season this afternoon and a first-ever regular season meeting with the Georgia Bulldogs highlights the 16-match schedule.

In addition to an early season match up with the Bulldogs, the Owls will also face the Minnesota Golden Gophers from the Big Ten Conference, the first time KSU has played a member of the Big Ten. Both Georgia and Minnesota were nationally ranked last season.

"We are pleased to have Georgia and Minnesota on the schedule this season," said King. "As we try to do, we have put together a challenging, competitive non-conference schedule and then combine that with an always tough A-Sun slate and we should be very well tested before the postseason."

The Owls will welcome former Peach Belt Conference rivals, Francis Marion, back on the schedule. The Patriots have recently transitioned to Division I and will meet the Owls for the first time since KSU made the transition. Kennesaw State will also play non-conference matches with Samford and Jackson State.

Five conference home games are set with Kennesaw State hosting a pair of Florida-based teams in Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast and the Nashville-based duo of Lipscomb and Belmont. The Campbell Camels will also make a trip to campus.

A pair of preseason exhibition matches are scheduled for the weekend of August 14; opponents, dates and game times are yet to be determined.
