Owls, ETSU Play A-Sun Finale

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State softball team will conclude Atlantic Sun Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they host East Tennessee State in a doubleheader at Bailey Park. Before the game, the Owls will honor seniors Jacki Warren and Jamie KeKaualua on Senior Day 2009, in addition Kennesaw State will also honor the Lorelei Ladies, Atlanta's first traveling fast pitch women's softball team. ETSU (24-21, 5-11 A-Sun) enters the game having clinched a berth in the A-Sun conference tournament. The Buccaneers are currently in fifth place after having lost a doubleheader at Mercer, 1-0 and 4-0 on Friday night. Chenice Cason has been the offensive catalyst for the Bucs, batting .349 with a team-high 45 hits with two doubles and 10 runs batted in. The junior is entering the game riding an eight-game hitting streak and is 14-for-15 in steals. In the circle for ETSU, Marissa Hardy is the top gun. Hardy leads the Buccaneers with a 1.77 earned run average and has 148 strikeouts in 177.2 innings of work. The Owls (20-19, 6-12 A-Sun) enter the game after having split a twin bill with USC Upstate. The Owls beat Morgan Childers, 3-0, in the opener as April Harper pitched a complete game one-hitter and Catherine Tarvin delivered a bases-loaded, triple for the win. In the nightcap, the Owls fell to the Spartans, 1-0, in eight innings, the third extra-inning game this week for the Black and Gold. Kennesaw State is looking for its first doubleheader sweep since they took a pair of games from Stetson on April 3 in DeLand, Fla. when they defeated the Hatters, 2-1 and 3-1. Prior to the Senior Day ceremony honoring Warren and KeKaualua, Kennesaw State will honor the Lorelei Ladies. The Lorelei ladies were Atlanta's first-ever traveling fastpitch women's softball team was founded in 1939 and was supported by Dr. Bobbie Bailey and her family for over 30 years. Members of the Lorelei Ladies will honored in an on field ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Senior Day ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m. with first pitch between Kennesaw State and ETSU taking place at 2:00 p.m. |
