MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State's April Harper and Catherine Tarvin were both selected to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team in a statement released by the conference office this morning. Harper enjoyed a stellar rookie season for the Owls as she emerged as the Black and Gold's top hurler. The Blairsville, Ga. native led Kennesaw State in nearly every pitching category including wins, strikeouts, earned run average, complete games and shutouts. Among her stellar efforts in her freshman season, Harper pitched a one-hitter against USC Upstate on April 24, had a two-hitter against Mercer on March 21. She also pitched a three-hitter and a four-hitter as she pitched complete games in both ends of a doubleheader sweep against Stetson on April 3. Tarvin, who pitched and played outfield during her rookie campaign, was one of two position players who also pitched to earn All-Freshman recognition along with Courtney Billington of Lipscomb. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native was second on the Owls in batting with a .282 mark and led Kennesaw State in doubles and on-base percentage. In the circle, Tarvin notched six wins, including a win over Mississippi State in her collegiate debut, while leading the Owls with 65 strikeouts. Harper and Tarvin become the third and fourth players to earn A-Sun All-Freshman Team honors for the Owls, joining teammates Klair Wells and Jessica Cross. Cross was an all-freshman selection in 2008 and Wells earned the honor in 2007. The Black and Gold concluded their fourth and final re-classification season this year and beginning next season, Kennesaw State will be eligible for post-season play. Kennesaw State, who won the 2007 regular season A-Sun championship, finished their four-year transition phase with a record of 139-84 and posted a record of 50-30 in Atlantic Sun Conference play.
