Hitting/Pitching Facility Construction Begins

May 26, 2009

KENNESAW, Ga. - Construction has gotten underway this week for the new indoor hitting and pitching facility that will be located between Stillwell Stadium and Bailey Park.

The 4,000-plus square-foot facility, which is located in between the center field wall of Stillwell Stadium and the home bullpen at Bailey Park, will feature four indoor hitting cages and three pitching areas.

"We are excited to get this project underway," said Kennesaw State softball head coach and Senior Associate Athletic Director Scott Whitlock. "This is something that we have worked towards for a few years now and this will be another step in the direction of continuous growth in athletics."

The completion date for the facility is scheduled for mid-August, in time for the beginning of fall practice for both the baseball and softball teams.

"This facility will serve as a huge addition for both the softball and baseball programs," said baseball head coach and Assistant Athletic Director Mike Sansing. "Combine the batting and pitching area and we feel like this complex will allow us to continue the development of our student-athletes and make us more competitive in the A-Sun, but on the national scene as well."

The 2010 season will be the first season Kennesaw State softball and baseball will be eligible for post-season play. The Owls successfully concluded their four-year NCAA transition from Division II to Division I.
