Owls to Honor Cobos on Senior Day
April 9, 2009
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's tennis team will go for its third-straight Atlantic Sun Conference win when it plays host to Mercer on Thursday afternoon in the Owls last home match of the season. "I am excited about the match, and hope that the players are too," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Brandon Padgett. "This is the final conference match of the year, and we need to treat it as such and give everything we have." The match, scheduled for 2 p.m. at the KSU Tennis Complex, is also Senior Day so the team will honor three-year standout senior Mercedes Cobos in a ceremony preceding play. Cobos has been the team's anchor at No. 3 this season, compiling a 6-9 overall record, highlighted by a 4-4 tally against the A-Sun. The Owls (9-9, 5-3) who have already guaranteed themselves their first winning record against the conference since joining the A-Sun, will look to push their overall record above the .500 mark for the first time since winning their spring opener against Savannah State. The team's nine wins are the most in school D-I history, while the five conference wins are the most since 2002-03 when the Owls were members of the Peach Belt Athletic Conference. Mercer is 4-15 overall and 1-8 against the conference, earning its first A-Sun with a 6-1 defeat of Lipscomb last Saturday. "We know that we will have to play well in order to secure our first-ever win over Mercer." added Padgett. The match is free to attend to all patrons, so come out and show your support for the Owls in their final match of the season in front of friendly fans. A recap of the action, including scores, will be available following the conclusion of play. |
