Owls Host Spring Tournament Friday

March 26, 2009

KENNESAW, Ga. - New head coach Karen Weatherington will get her first opportunity to see the Kennesaw State volleyball team scrimmage against other teams this Friday when the Owls host Georgia State and Chattanooga for a round robin of exhibition matches. The Owls will play Chattanooga at 4:00 p.m. at the Convocation Center in the first match.

"I have been very happy with our progress in the gym," said Coach Weatherington. "The team has trained very hard for the past few weeks and embraced a great deal of new systems and concepts. They deserve to see the benefits of their hard work through competition. Friday's matches will give us a chance to try different lineups and challenge ourselves competitively."

The spring season is an opportunity for teams to work on fundamentals and practice in preparation for the fall season. Matches are strictly exhibitions, with the format for Friday's matches consisting of three sets played to 25 points. Even if one team wins the first two sets, the teams will still play the third set.

The Owls and the Lady Mocs will play at 4:00 p.m., with Chattanooga facing Georgia State in the second match, starting at 6:00 p.m. The Owls and the Lady Panthers will round out the evening with an 8:00 p.m. first serve.

Admission to the Convocation Center is free to all patrons for this event.
